Transition Guide · v2.8.0

What's changing this week

We're upgrading xPlant with a more connected, modern tissue-culture workflow. Your existing data and records will remain safe — the update is designed to enhance what you already have, not break it.

Your data is safe. No action required.

xPlant is receiving a major usability upgrade this week. Your existing data, records, plants, explants, logs, media recipes, SOPs, tasks, and history will remain intact. These updates are designed to improve the experience around your existing work, not replace it.

If anything concerns you, please email us at team@shmaplex.com.

What's changing

A before-and-after overview of key areas being upgraded.

Navigation and layout

Before

Some pages were more isolated and harder to scan. Important actions could feel inconsistent across screens.

After

More consistent detail-page layouts, cleaner action placement, better page hierarchy, and improved loading and empty states.

Plants and explants

Before

Plants and explants worked as records, but related details could feel scattered.

After

More consistent plant and explant detail pages with better overview cards, tabs, and cleaner handling of logs, stages, and transfers.

Contamination management

Before

Contamination pages and cards could feel visually heavy or unclear.

After

Cleaner contamination landing and detail pages with better separation of logs and affected plant links.

Media recipes and SOPs

Before

Recipes and SOPs existed but needed clearer connected workflows.

After

Better linked SOP cards and recipe detail structure, with a roadmap toward connected plant types, SOPs, and media protocols.

Tasks and scheduling

Before

Tasks existed but the scheduling page needed visual and workflow polish.

After

Redesigned tasks page with clearer list and calendar placement. Future-ready homes for reminders, recurring templates, and team coordination.

Team and collaboration

Before

Collaboration was limited — xPlant worked primarily for solo users.

After

Team and workspace foundations are being built. Future support for assignments, comments, mentions, and team boards. Solo-user workflows continue to work.

AI assistant

Before

The AI helper felt like a manually opened panel requiring a personal API key.

After

A more ambient, helpful, and optional AI assistant direction — xPlant should work well without requiring a custom API key.
